About Luray, Virginia
Luray is a small town in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, tucked between the Blue Ridge and Massanutten mountains. You may know it for its proximity to Shenandoah National Park, or for it's famous Luray Caverns. Small and unassuming, there is actually so much charm and beauty in Luray, and an abundance of great engagement photo locations. For couples planning engagement photos in the Shenandoah Valley, Luray offers a mix of natural landscapes and small-town character that can be cozy and romantic or fun and adventurous. As a local photographer, these are–in my opinion–the best places for engagement photos in Luray.
Luray Caverns
Luray Caverns is one of the most unique engagement photo locations in Virginia. The caverns are filled with massive stone formations and dramatic lighting that creates a completely different atmosphere than outdoor portraits.
Because the caverns stay a comfortable temperature year round, they can also be a great option during winter and summer months. An hour-long walking tour takes you through multiple picturesque spots, from the massive Cathedral Room to the Wishing Well.
Lake Arrowhead
Lake Arrowhead Park is a beautiful 134-acre park just outside downtown Luray. The park features a large lake with mountain views, open grassy areas, and wooded trails that photograph beautifully in every season.
This is a great spot for natural, relaxed engagement photos. In the fall the leaves add warm color throughout the park, while summer evenings bring soft golden light over the lake.
Downtown Luray
The town of Luray itself has many spots that are great locations for engagement photos. From the iconic pink Page Theater, to the lovely buildings and bridges and the scenic Hawksbill Greenway, there is a hidden gem no matter what your style is.
